Pet Portraits in Watercolor - LIVE IN GALLERY WORKSHOP

Have you always wanted to capture a beloved dog or cat’s likeness and personality in a watercolor portrait? This is your opportunity to learn how. A pet portrait is a perfect gift for yourself, a friend or family member.

In the Pet Portrait Workshop, we will be focusing on head and shoulders. You’ll be able to paint the dog or cat of your choice and will learn how to:

  • Paint fur with depth and light source, including how to handle long, short, curly, straight or fluffy fur
  • Paint the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and whiskers
  • Mix your colors
  • Incorporate the background with your pet
  • Handle small details, including painting a metal tag and collar

While you’ll have time to do your drawings prior to the class, I will check your drawing for accuracy before you start painting.

A San Diego native and graduate of San Diego State University, Jayne Spencer has been painting and exhibiting throughout Southern California for more than 30 years.

Well-known for her representational works, Jayne’s style focuses on bold lines, shapes and color. She was awarded the Logan Award and Golden Award at the San Diego Watercolor Society’s 34th International Show, and has had her work accepted into numerous juried shows.

One of Jayne’s greatest joys is helping students on their creative journeys. She has taught watercolor painting at a local community college as well as in her own private studio, helping more than 1,000 students better grasp the concepts of watercolor while also feeling at ease in the learning and creative process.
