Sit N Paint
Location: Education Room, San Diego Watercolor Society
Date: 05/06/2024 09:15 AM - 11:15 AM
M 5/6/2024
9:15am - 11:15am OK to stay longer, if staffers are at the gallery desk.
FREE Sit N Paint
San Diego Watercolor Society Education Room
OPEN to all active SDWS members and adult member-hosted guests with Staffer-Trained SDWS member artists in the mix.
These FREE sessions must be flexible as to days and hours
and participants must willingly yield to scheduled SDWS events & sudden conflicts. Check the Calendar for adjustments as this new program evolves.
Let's use the available Education Room to Sit & Paint together - as a productive, social use of the space. Camaraderie among like-minded creative folks is a club goal! No lesson plan, just bring your art supplies, set up and paint. Finish your plein air efforts, create greeting cards, get a painting ready for exhibition, work on a series, practice techniques, revive sorrowful paintings.
Discussions inevitably turn to art design and composition and options, art shows and events. No politics / religion / sales pitches Focus on painting. Ear buds are a good item, if you prefer music or words plus a bit of isolation within a group. Few people enjoy the same music at the same time.
Materials Bring your own kit Water - Color - Paper/substrate - Brush
There is ramp access to our building 200;
on the southeast side (beside the Quilt Museum)
We have 6' tables and folding chairs.
If you prefer to stand, consider your options.
Let's reduce our footprint within the gallery by bringing a table cover and our own paper towels. SDWS is for watercolor and mixed water media painters (NO oil paints or oily additives, please). Over time, full bodied Acrylics can clog a sink, so plan to clean thick paints from brushes and palettes onto disposable paper towels/rags before rinsing with soap and water to minimize the flow of paint down the drain. Many of us need the commitment on a calendar or to other people - to show up and paint. Otherwise, life presents other things to do. Let's paint together, now and then. ---

Consider adding mark-making tools to your plein air kit: Caran D’Ache crayons or watercolor pencils or pens, palette knife or other?
Oh, Chuck is known to use 80 grit sandpaper for roughing the paper & blue tape for masking bits. And GRAVITY. A board and clips or tape are handy, so you can tilt your artwork at times as you paint!
Plus, witty interactions, so the event is sure to be a painter-tainment!
