Work with watermedia pours and dropped in color to provide harmonious glowing washes of color on paper.  Incredible fusions of color will appear with hardly any effort at all. We’ll experiment with gesso, gouache, collage, and acrylic inks to build up colorful backgrounds and extended layers for negative painting and glazes.  Be prepared to loosen up and experiment with textures to build up the surfaces, paint translucent layers, and create extraordinary botanical and animal shapes.

Helen Shafer Garcia

Helen Shafer Garcia lives and works in North San Diego County, CA as an Artist, Illustrator, Arts Educator and Gardener. She has created corporate and magazine illustrations for over twenty years. Her illustrations have graced the cover brochures of numerous international resorts, such as the Westin Mission Hills Resort, Palm Desert, CA, Westin St. John Resort and Acapulco Diamante Resort in Mexico. Honors include four San Diego Press Club first place awards for Excellence in Illustration for her work in San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles magazine. Helen's artworks involve the process of transference- subtraction and addition of paint and exploratory mark making. She's currently working with watercolor, book arts, pastel and mixed media creating contemporary organic and iconographic images. Helen obtained her BA in Fine Arts from the California State University, Long Beach.
