The San Diego Watercolor Plein Air Exhibition is proud to be celebrating it’s third year! This year’s exhibition was juried by San Diego artist Keiko Tanabe who has received numerous awards for her watercolors worldwide.
When asked about this exhibition, Tanabe remarked, “It’s an honor for me to be asked to judge this show. I look for an emotional connection when choosing the paintings for an exhibition. I trust my first impression of a work, but I also look for whether the artist was able to capture the feel of the place – the ambiance – including the sounds and the smells. This makes the painting speak to me and have an impact. I look for work where the light is well captured and the brush work is very strong. In addition to technical merit, I’m also looking for a strong personal voice. How does the artist use their knowledge and skill to support their vision? Does the artist make me want to be there to experience this place? All of these artists have created impressive works.”
Be sure to visit the San Diego Watercolor Gallery to view these plein air paintings which will be on display until December 29, 2019. See our website for more information or purchase artwork online.
