Indio Artist Wins Second Place

Kathleen Scoggin, an artist and resident of Indio, California, won the second-place award in the continuingly competitive April 2021 Member’s exhibition “Color Zone” held virtually in April 2021, on The San Diego Watercolor Society website, www.sdws.org.  Scoggin’s painting entitled “Windy Night” was selected by prominent local artist and juror Richard Hawk for this honor, out of more than 270 entries. Hawk said of  the painting, “The exploded feel is exciting, with such rewards found in the ‘cracks’ as the eye wanders through this piece. Like most good abstracts, there are hints of reference to important contents. The painting is dreamlike, rich and compelling. It is easy to enter and stay in this artwork.”

Kathleen Scoggin is a contemporary abstract artist and instructor working in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media who is an increasingly frequent award-winner at the San Diego Watercolor Society. She received education in Design, Fine Arts Coursework & Art History at Oregon State University, Portland State University & Chemeketa Community College. Her work is inspired by nature, and expresses organic subjects inviting the viewer to see and be aware of the beauty around them. The work is based on unique texture techniques to describe the varied earth forms that are all around us. Her art is created to help the viewer see and be aware of the electrifying beauty of nature but still create mystery. Kathleen’s work has been exhibited throughout California and Oregon, and she has won numerous awards throughout southern California. Her work may be seen at https://kathleenscoggin.com/

The Virtual Exhibit will run through Saturday April 24, 2021 on The San Diego Watercolor Society’s website at https://www.sdws.org/galleryart.php?cat=6964 where the paintings can be both viewed and purchased from the Online Store.
