Angela Westengard, an artist and resident of San Diego, won the Best of Theme award in the continuingly competitive August 2021 Member’s exhibition “Lazy Days” held virtually by the San Diego Watercolor Society available to view on the website, www.sdws.org. Westengard’s painting entitled “The Wait” was selected by prominent artist and juror Robin Erickson for this honor. Erickson said of the painting, “This painting seemed to exemplify what people do on lazy days….relax in a cafe with a cup of coffee. It has nice composition, expressive line, and harmonious color.”
Angela attended Cal State Northridge, but was not formally trained in fine art. Angela attended Cal State Northridge, but was not formally trained in fine art. Her career before painting was as a writer/producer for The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences. She also produced shows for The History Channel and regional PBS stations. Her art work, however, has been highly influenced by master painters that guided her over the years in various workshops. These lessons live on in her painting career through the principles of simplicity, boldness, spirituality, and letting go. Although she thoroughly enjoys painting with acrylics, oils, and doing collage work, watercolor’s unpredictability, in particular, reflects not only the spontaneous magic that occurs in her work, but also the power, heart, and soul of who she is. She is ever striving to evolve and, most importantly, to trust the process. Angela is a current member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, and her work is consistently hung in juried shows in their gallery. She has also won numerous awards and has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Redlands, San Bernardino, and Riverside areas of Southern California.
