THE SAN DIEGO WATERCOLOR SCOIETY
EDUCATION OUTREACH
Dear Teacher,
As volunteers with the San Diego Watercolor Society, we are pleased to share our appreciation for visual arts, and particularly watercolor, with you and your students. With the support of the SDWS governing board and funding from the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, our Educational Outreach volunteers are inspired to provide visual arts opportunities to a variety of schools and community centers.
To request lessons or schedule your class for this school year, please contact us at educationoutreach@sdws.org.
Many of our volunteers are former classroom teachers or school administrators. We realize the value of student time on task and meeting standards. After scheduling your class, we would love to have a recommendation from you for a painting exercise that aligns with your curriculum. It might be creating a painting from a recent poem, an animal likeness to accompany a report on endangered animals, or depicting a scene from early California.
Additionally, there are many digital watercolor lessons to practice more about using the medium that were created by our volunteers at https://www.sdws.org/page.php?ID=15. We hope these plans provide you and your students with hours of art appreciation and painting.
At the end of our lesson, we ask that you complete a digital survey. We also like to use photos of the students and their artwork for publicity and reporting purposes, so we can use your help with this.
Our gallery is located in Liberty Station at 2825 Dewey Road, and is open Wed-Sunday from 11-3pm. We have monthly member shows, special shows such as one with international artists, events such as one with Just in Time for Foster Youth , and booths at Kids Walk in Liberty Station. Check out the calendar on our website to get involved. https://www.sdws.org/index.php
We look forward to meeting you and your students.
Sincerely,
Carol Van Vooren, Director
